The religious fairs held in India from time immemorial are known as Kumbha Melas; they have kept spiritual goals in constant sight of the multitude. Devout Hindus gather by millions every twelve years to meet thousands of sadhus, yogis, swamis, and ascetics of all kinds. Many are hermits who never leave their secluded haunts except to attend the melas and there bestow blessings on worldly men and women.
“I was not a swami at the time I met Babaji,” Sri Yukteswar went on. “But I had already received Kriya initiation from Lahiri Mahasaya. He encouraged me to attend the mela that was convening in January, 1894, in Allahabad. It was my first experience of a kumbha; I felt slightly dazed by the clamor and surge of the crowd. I gazed around searchingly, but saw no illumined face of a master. Passing a bridge on the bank of the Ganges, I noticed an acquaintance standing nearby, his begging bowl extended.

“‘Oh, this fair is nothing but a chaos of noise and beggars,’ I thought in disillusionment. ‘I wonder if Western scientists, patiently enlarging the realms of knowledge for the practical good of mankind, are not more pleasing to God than these idlers who profess religion but concentrate on alms.’
“My smoldering reflections on social reform were interrupted by the voice of a tall sannyasi who halted before me.
“‘Sir,’ he said, ‘A saint is calling you.’
“‘Who is he?’
“‘Come and see for yourself.’
“Hesitantly following this laconic advice, I soon found myself near a tree whose branches were sheltering a guru with an attractive group of disciples. The master, a bright unusual figure, with sparkling dark eyes, rose at my approach and embraced me.
“‘Welcome, Swamiji,’ he said affectionately.
“‘Sir,’ I replied emphatically, ‘I am not a swami.’
“‘Those on whom I am divinely directed to bestow the title of swami never cast it off.’ The saint addressed me simply, but deep conviction of truth rang in his words; I was instantly engulfed in a wave of spiritual blessing. Smiling at my sudden elevation into the ancient monastic order, I bowed at the feet of the obviously great and angelic being in human form who had thus honored me.
“Babaji — for it was indeed he — motioned me to a seat near him under the tree. He was strong and young, and looked like Lahiri Mahasaya; yet the resemblance did not strike me, even though I had often heard of the extraordinary similarities in the appearance of the two masters. Babaji possesses a power by which he can prevent any specific thought from arising in a person’s mind. Evidently the great guru wished me to be perfectly natural in his presence, not overawed by knowledge of his identity.
“‘What do you think of the Kumbha Mela?’ “‘I was greatly disappointed, sir,’ I said, but added hastily, ‘up until the time I met you. Somehow saints and this commotion don’t seem to belong together.’
“‘Child,’ the master said, though apparently I was nearly twice his own age, ‘for the faults of the many, judge not the whole. Everything on earth is of mixed character, like a mingling of sand and sugar. Be like the wise ant that seizes only the sugar, and leaves the sand untouched. Though many sadhus here still wander in delusion, yet the mela is blessed by a few men of God-realization.’
“In view of my own meeting with this exalted master, I quickly agreed with him.

quotes of paramahansa Yogananda
The joy of God is boundless, unceasing, all the time new. Body, mind, nothing can disturb you when you are in that consciousness -- such is the grace and glory of the Lord. And He will explain to you whatever you haven't been able to understand, everything you want to know.

Sri Paramahansa Yogananda, "Man's Eternal Quest"
In creating this universe God revealed two aspects: the masculine or fatherly, and the feminine or motherly. If you close your eyes and visualize vast, illimitable space, you become overwhelmed and enthralled - you feel naught but pure wisdom. That hidden, infinite sphere wherein there is no creation, no stars or planets - only pure wisdom - is the Father."

THE RESURRECTION OF SRI YUKTESWAR - June 19, 1936
~~♥THE RESURRECTION OF SRI YUKTESWAR♥~~ June 19, 1936
Sitting on my bed in the Bombay hotel at three o'clock in the afternoon of June 19, 1936--one week after the vision of Krishna--I was roused from my meditation by a beatific light. Before my open and astonished eyes, the whole room was transformed into a strange world, the sunlight transmuted into supernal splendor.
WAVES OF RAPTURE ENGULFED ME AS I BEHELD THE FLESH AND BLOOD FORM OF SRI YUKTESWAR!
"MY SON!" Master spoke tenderly, ON HIS FACE AN ANGEL-BEWITCHING SMILE.
For the first time in my life I did not kneel at his feet in greeting but instantly advanced to gather him hungrily in my arms. Moment of moments! The anguish of past months was toll I counted weightless against the torrential bliss now descending.
"Master mine, beloved of my heart, why did you leave me?" I was incoherent in an excess of joy. "Why did you let me go to the Kumbha Mela? How bitterly have I blamed myself for leaving you!"
"I did not want to interfere with your happy anticipation of seeing the pilgrimage spot where first I met Babaji. I left you only for a little while; am I not with you again?"
"But is it you, Master, the same Lion of God? Are you wearing a body like the one I buried beneath the cruel Puri sands?"
"Yes, my child, I am the same. This is a flesh and blood body. Though I see it as ethereal, to your sight it is physical. From the cosmic atoms I created an entirely new body, exactly like that cosmic-dream physical body which you laid beneath the dream-sands at Puri in your dream-world. I am in truth resurrected--not on earth but on an astral planet. Its inhabitants are better able than earthly humanity to meet my lofty standards. There you and your exalted loved ones shall someday come to be with me."

A PARAMAHANSA YOGANANDA TRILOGY OF DIVINE LOVE - by SRI DURGA MATA
Exercises and Walk :
Master's wonderful physique was acquired through his own tensing exercises, which he created and developed in in India before coming to this country in 1920.He said at hat time he tried what he called all kinds of muscle bumping exercises to develop and improve his body strength. He often thought , "There must be some better way of exercising." He continued, " one day I saw a cat awakening from its nap , and immediately upon rising I observed that cat stretched its body as far as it could and for a long time. I wondered why the cat stretched and what was the stretching doing to its body. I began to stretch myself. Having keen observation power , I discovered that I felt so much more life in my body.. The cat had tensed its body; and this experience gave me the idea of my tensing exercises. As I practised stretching every morning and evening and during the day, I felt such wonderful results; from one improvement after another , it became what I gave in the first Yogoda lessons". In later years Master added more exercises, the same that are now practised in the SRF lessons that have awakened the world to a new method of exercises.

11 Techniques To Deal With Challenges - Sri sri Paramahansa Yogananda
1) "Whenever anyone utters with reverence the name of BABAJI," Lahiri Mahasaya said, " that devotee attracts an instant spiritual blessing." - Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda.
2) "It is an old superstition of the ignorant to believe you cannot change your destiny....If you give up and think that there is no chance for you, you have pronounced your own fatal judgement...when you say there is no hope, you have failed. But when you think, "I am free, I am strong; even though bad karma strikes me, still I will not give up," then you will see your good karma coming forth." -- Paramahansa Yogananda, The Wisdom Way to Overcome Karma, Journey to Self-Realization
3) "The sunshine of divine prosperity has burst through the dark sky of my limitations. I am God's child. What He has, I have." Paramahansa Yogananda, Scientific Healing Affirmations
4) "I am submerged in...eternal light; it permeates every particle of my being. I am living in that light. Divine Spirit fills me within and without." Paramahansa Yogananda, Metaphysical Meditations
5) Imagine Guruji and other SRF Gurus at the Kutastha and after meditation imagine God and Guru's light changing wrong habits and burning bad karma in the brain. (Techniques in GTWA and DR)
6) "If the fires and mosquitoes of heat, cold, anxiety, care, fear, sickness, etc., single and singe you, seek the remedy with a quiet mind. Always keep the mind steady and indifferent." - Paramahansa Yogananda, in God Alone, The Life and Letters of a Saint
7) "Faith in divine protection, and right use of man's God-given will, are forces more formidable than are influences flowing from the heavens. The starry inscription at one's birth....is not that man is a puppet of his past. Its message is rather a prod to pride; the very heavens seek to arouse man's determination to be free from every limitation." - Paramahansa Yogananda, Autobiography of a Yogi
8) "Visualize a great fire of wisdom around which all the Masters are standing. Now feel that you have cast into that fire of wisdom all your past karma...There is Divine Mother standing right before the flaming light, and all the Masters are standing there. "O Kali, O Kali, oh, such bliss, oh such joy! Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, Swami Sri Yukteswarji, Guru-Preceptor, Mother Kali, Mother Kali, Divine Mother, before us is the fire of wisdom. And in that fire of wisdom we offer our past karma and the karma of all nations. Let that bad karma be consumed forever. Aum Swaha. Aum Swaha. Aum Swaha." - Paramahansa Yogananda, in Meditation & Vision, Self-Realization Magazine Winter 2002
9) "I am castled in God's presence. No harm can reach me, for in every situation of life -- physical, mental, financial, spiritual -- I am protected in the fortress of God's presence." -- Paramahansa Yogananda, Self-Realization Magazine, Spring 2006, Destroying the Consciousness of Fear
10) "Master had taught us, that if you want to commune with any another individual, concentrate on his spiritual eye...During...time of trial, whenever I meditated...I concentrated at my spiritual eye, and then visualized Guruji's face and concentrated on his Kutastha center. Again and again I hammered the ether with my prayerful thought, sending to Master my plea for spiritual help and assurance...After a few days of prayerful pleas to Master, he sent a cablegram back to America with these words: "Tell Faye everything will be all right." " - Sri Daya Mata, Self-Realization Magazine, Fall 2009
11) Harmony Prayer by Swami Bhaktanandaji. Especially useful to get over anger and resentment in dealing with others and approaching situations with God's intended attitude. Visualize all those in the group who hurt you, and mentally surround them in divine light. Then deeply pray, "Lord, fill them with peace and harmony, peace and harmony, peace and harmony", over and over, for a minute. Afterward, visualize yourself in divine light, and pray, "Lord, fill me with peace and harmony, peace and harmony," for about 15 seconds. Do this five times a day, and you will see a change come over those individuals.

150th Anniversary of Kriya Yoga’s Revival Celebrated Worldwide
The year 2011 marked the 150th anniversary of the reintroduction of the ancient science of Kriya Yoga into the modern world. It was in 1861 that Lahiri Mahasaya met the deathless guru Mahavatar Babaji in the Himalayas and received initiation into the sacred soul-science. As Paramahansa Yogananda has written: “This auspicious event did not happen to Lahiri Mahasaya alone; it was a fortunate moment for all the human race. The lost, or long-vanished, highest art of yoga was again being brought to light.”
Numerous events were conducted by Self-Realization Fellowship in 2011 to honor this anniversary and to help in further spreading the soul-liberating Kriya technique to truth seekers throughout the world:
An entire issue of Self-Realization magazine was dedicated to the science of Kriya Yoga. Interest in the Summer 2011 issuewas so great that it quickly sold out despite an overrun in printing. (This special issue has been now reprinted, and copies are available while supplies last.) A message received from one reader attested:
“Every single page [of this issue] is overflowing with such encouraging and inspiring words. I have carried the magazine with me everywhere so that when I get a chance, I can just look at a paragraph to uplift me and to give me a thought to which I can keep returning during the day. Kriya really is ‘the royal technique of God-realization’ and, again, thank you for reiterating in this dynamo of a magazine many of its incomparable blissful blessings.”
- A new section was added to the SRF Website highlighting the history and benefits of this sacred technique of soul liberation.
- SRF temples and centers worldwide conducted programs based on Paramahansa Yogananda’s writings on Kriya Yoga, during which a special messagefrom SRF/YSS President Sri Mrinalini Mata was shared with the congregations.
- During the 2011 Convocation, all classes included a special focus on the many vital facets of the Kriya science.
- Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (YSS) featured special events throughout the subcontinent as well as special content in their magazine and on their website. Among the special events were pada yatras, or walking pilgrimages, reenacting the 1861 journey of Lahiri Mahasaya from Ranikhet to Babaji’s Cave — the site near which Lahiri Mahasaya received initiation into Kriya Yoga from his guru, Mahavatar Babaji. Two groups of YSS members and YSS monks on different occasions participated in the eleven-hour trek through the Himalayan foothills. One participating devotee wrote:

“When we reached Babaji’s Cave after five hours of trekking from Binta, we could not imagine we had trekked for eleven hours from Ranikhet. Definitely Babaji’s blessings must be behind this experience. While meditating in the cave we felt the love of Babaji showering upon us, the world ceased in our consciousness, and we were consumed by ever new, pure joy. It was an enriching experience and each of us carried back unforgettable memories.”
